Immerse yourself in this simple and soothing activity as you create your own beautiful ornament to cherish at home.
All ages are invited to participate, but we ask that children come accompanied by an adult and possess a fair amount of patience.
This event is free to attend, and we appreciate any donations to support our endeavors. A suggested donation of $10 will help us continue bringing you more delightful events like this one!
A quick note: Because we are an open and working shop with lots of tools, we will ask that you fill out a waiver when visiting the space. This activity isn't dangerous.

Taste of Woodworking - Long Grain Cutting Board Learn the basics of using the woodworking equipment available at Lansing Makers Network and leave with a project everyone will be jealous of! You'll learn how to use the basic tools of the woodshop, as well as you to design and make a beautiful cutting board that will look exceptional in your kitchen. This class is beginner focused and participants are not expected to have prior knowledge of woodworking. The course is open to participants age 16 and over (participants under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult also enrolled in the class). Note: There is a lunch break in the middle of this class while we wait for glue to dry. Participants are welcome to bring a lunch and hang out at the makerspace, or we'll happily suggest our favorite local dining options. FAQ: Should I bring anything with me to class? Everything you'll need to complete the projects will be provided including any nessecary safety equipment. If you have safety glasses or hearing protection you prefer to wear, please feel free to bring them along. (Safety glasses must meet ANSI Z87 standards (most do).) Can I bring my own wood to use? We'll supply all the wood you'll use to complete you cutting board. Trust us, it'll be some really awesome stuff. Save that wood at home for your next project! What should I wear ? Plan to wear comfortable clothing that you're prepared to get dirty. Avoid loose-fitting clothing and dangling jewelry such as neck chains or bracelets. Taste of Jewelry - Copper Ornaments How to make holiday ornaments to hang in your home, hang on a Christmas tree, add to a wreath or used as present topper. Students will learn how to: Texture metal how to draw a bead on the end of wire how to rivet layered pieces of metal together finishing technique show to add patina + colored wax and how to make ornament hooks. This class is beginner focused and participants are not expected to have prior knowledge of jewelry making. The course is open to participants age 16 and over. (Participants under 18 must be accompanied by a parent/guardian who is also participating in the class.) Please wear work boots or shoes made from leather or canvas (no nylon, it melts!). Wear natural fiber clothing (cotton is best). My background covers a lifetime of making and building things mostly from wood with 5 decades of professional experience building cabinets, furniture, musical instruments, science exhibits, boats, and houses. I hope my experience can help you.
