Beginner Woodworking - Cigar Box Guitar Making In this course, you will make your own 3-string “cigar box” box guitar, and decide on some decorative features for it. Along the way, you'll learn some of the fundamentals of string instrument design and various woodworking and electronic skills. In the end, you will walk away with a very cool instrument that you will be able to play (at least a little) even if you have no previous instrument playing expertise. This class is a complex and unique project that will take some time to complete. With that in mind, we will schedule three weekly 2 ½ - 3-hour classes and a weekly lab opportunity to continue work on your project as needed. Class dates are: 10/10, 10/12 (Lab Day), 10/17, 10/19 (Lab Day), 10/24, 10/26 (Lab Day) The course is open to participants age 16 and over (participants under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult also enrolled in the class). The teacher of this course described it as “one of the most enjoyable musical instruments or woodworking projects I have ever made.” How could it not be? FAQ: Should I bring anything with me to class? Everything you'll need to complete the projects will be provided including any necessary safety equipment. If you have safety glasses or hearing protection you prefer to wear, please feel free to bring them along. (Safety glasses must meet ANSI Z87 standards (most do).) Can I bring my own wood to use? We'll supply all the wood you'll use to complete your wine rack. What should I wear ? Plan to wear comfortable clothing that you're prepared to get dirty. Avoid loose-fitting clothing and dangling jewelry such as neck chains or bracelets. Shoes should be closed-toed (no sandals or flip-flops). Any long hair should be tied back. I have a question that's not answered here. Can you help me? Of course, just send us an email at education@lansingmakersnetwork.org!
