Taste of Electronics - Intro to Soldering Whether you're just getting into electronics or a seasoned pro, soldering circuits is a important skill. Learn how to assemble and solder an electronics kits in this fun workshop. We'll supply everything you need to build this month's kit. This class is best for ages 10+ (Participants under 18 years old must be accompanied by an adult also enrolled in the class.) Note: Kits may occasionally vary slightly from what is pictured.

I am going to try to have regular hours on Thursdays from around 6-8 to be available to answer woodworking questions about tools, tool use, joinery, your current projects, etc. as well as offer some demonstrations of tools and techniques. We’ll see how it goes. I am the area manager. My background covers a lifetime of making and building things mostly from wood with 5 decades of professional experience building cabinets, furniture, musical instruments, science exhibits, boats, and houses. I hope my experience can help you.

Taste of Woodworking - Long Grain Cutting Board Learn the basics of using the woodworking equipment available at Lansing Makers Network and leave with a project everyone will be jealous of! You'll learn how to use the basic tools of the woodshop, as well as you to design and make a beautiful cutting board that will look exceptional in your kitchen. This class is beginner focused and participants are not expected to have prior knowledge of woodworking. The course is open to participants age 16 and over (participants under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult also enrolled in the class). Note: There is a lunch break in the middle of this class while we wait for glue to dry. Participants are welcome to bring a lunch and hang out at the makerspace, or we'll happily suggest our favorite local dining options.
FAQ: Should I bring anything with me to class? Everything you'll need to complete the projects will be provided including any necessary safety equipment. If you have safety glasses or hearing protection you prefer to wear, please feel free to bring them along. (Safety glasses must meet ANSI Z87 standards (most do).)
Can I bring my own wood to use? We'll supply all the wood you'll use to complete you cutting board. Trust us, it'll be some really awesome stuff. Save that wood at home for your next project!
What should I wear ? Plan to wear comfortable clothing that you're prepared to get dirty. Avoid loose-fitting clothing and dangling jewelry such as neck chains or bracelets. Shoes should be closed-toed (no sandals or flip-flops).

Jewelry Techniques - Metalsmithing 101Students will learn a variety of beginning metalsmithing techniques, with a focus on the skills of hand fabrication & soldering. Using raw sterling & copper sheet & wire + various metalsmithing tools, we’ll hand form & manipulate the metal into various charms & pendant type pieces that can be used in making necklaces, bracelets & earrings. This class is focused more on developing skills and techniques toward making jewelry, rather than on a specific project. Students will gain skills in: Sawing & piercingsoldering with jewelry torches metal forming metal texturing + metal stampingmaking jump ringsmaking ear wires simple stone setting patina + various finishing techniques & more. All materials will be supplied. The class will take place over two full-day sessions:
Session 1: March 4, 10-5Session 2: March 5, 10-5There will be an hour break for lunch each day.

Do I need any prior knowledge before taking this class? This class is beginner focused and participants are not expected to have prior knowledge of jewelry making. What should I wear or bring to the class? Please wear work boots or shoes made from leather or canvas (no nylon, it melts!). Wear natural fiber clothing (cotton is best). Safety glasses are required and will be provided, but if you have a pair you're comfortable in, consider bringing your own.

This "checkout" training will satisfy the tool training requirement for members, though non-members may attend as well. A CNC router is a computer-controlled machine that cuts, shapes, and carves materials with high precision. It follows instructions typically prepared using vector image files, making it ideal for woodworking, signage, prototyping, and more. Members at the Lansing Makers Network find a ton of creative ways to use this incredible tool!

Come in and laser cut and earring holder from plywood in our laser cutter! It'll take roughly 30 minutes to complete your custom art.Cut one of two predesigned hangers with the laser cutter available at Lansing Makers Network and leave with a project everyone will be jealous of! There are several colors and backgrounds to choose from to customize your own project.
This event is beginner focused and participants are not expected to have prior knowledge. The course is open to participants age 16 and over (participants under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult).

Bring materials and tools that you are ready to part with and sell or trade with your fellow makers in Lansing.
There is no cost for selling, though we would love a donation (suggested $20) to help keep the LMN running. Please register what you're bringing in the form below so we can set aside the proper amount of space for you. Each type of materials/tools listed will have their own section outside in our parking lots.

You will be responsible for your own materials, pricing, and trading. Please bring your own table/tent/tarp if needed. Anything that hasn't been sold or traded at the end of the day will also leave with you.
