"Log hewing is the process of taking a felling axe and a broad axe to turn a recently fallen tree into a square structural beam used before the widespread availability of ready-to-purchase milled lumber. The pit saw is how those beams would have been further processed into boards using human power."

Archeologist John Cardinal is back to demonstrate log hewing and pit saw, work that he has also done at various museums and historical events across the midwest.
He even built the pit saw, both stand and blade, at Lansing Makers Network.
